50 km south of Addis Ababa and across the Awash River is the village of Melka Kunture, downstream from the bridge over the river, there are three waterfalls that connect to the south through Butajira.

    French archaeologists, funded by the French Archaeological Mission in Ethiopia have worked in the neighborhood of Melka Kunture from the 1960's, have discovered more than 30 settlements. The findings are dated by volcanic eruptions of Mount Zuqualla, southeast of Melka Kunture. A museum was built on the site for the Committee on Tourism and Culture of Oromia, with financial assistance from the European Community. It consists of four exhibition buildings. One for the Prehistory of Africa, another of Geology and Volcanology, an Paleoanthropology third and fourth to the prehistory of Melka Kunture and "Open Air Museum, which shows the excavation of two Acheulean sites (stone tool industry ) that have been dated to 0.8 million years.

    Near Melka Kontur, is Adadi Mariam (a cave church) is an example of rock-hewn churches of the 12th century. Adadi Mariam is also believed to have been built in the same period the churches of Lalibela.

    Driving through and Akaki Kaliti, which are the industrial areas of Addis Ababa to Debre Zeit, through farmland where grains such as wheat, maize and teff are grown. After a brief visit to the lakes of Debre Zeit, accessed Adama (Oromo, Adaamaa or Hadaamaa), better known as Nazret or Nazreth)

Nazreth is located at an altitude of 1712 meters, 99 km southeast of Addis Ababa. The city lies between the base of a cliff to the west and the Great Rift Valley to the east. It is a fast growing city with diversified ethnic groups of Oromo, Amhara, Afar.

    After 35 kilometers, reaching the tourist area of Sodor, famous for its natural hot springs. Sodor complex has an Olympic swimming pool with natural hot water. The Awash River flows through the station and could see hippopotamus.
